The S&P 500 index funds have a huge political footprint. The three most popular of these funds own all 500 of the companies’s stocks in the S&P 500 index (SPY, IVV, VOO) but over 65% of those 500 companies contribute to (or have their own) political action committees (PACs). Over the last 3 election cycles, these companies have contributed over 500 million to PACs.
